Winter Break was a great two weeks to be with family and relax. But for the Lady Bulldogs, it was a time for team, blood, sweat, and tears.
The team went to Naples, Florida to compete in the Naples Holiday Classic. In the tournament, there were 16 teams divided into two divisions.
Joelle Johnson (11) commented, “It was a good experience. We played against some really good and athletic teams and we got to play in front of some major D1 coaches.”
Cameron Browning (11) added, “It was exciting to get to play in one of the best Christmas tournaments there is and against teams we haven’t played before.”
Of course, with this big of a tournament, there was major preparation.
“All of our games leading up to the tournament were prep games for this tournament,” says Johnson.
They also prepared by “focusing on what [we] had to do to be successful,” states Browning. “We didn’t know what to expect from the teams we were going to have to play.”
But with all of the pressure aside, the team had a great experience together.
Johnson says, “I think the tournament was kind of like our first real test with having all of our players back, so we’re finally starting to get into the swing of things. We’re at full strength and we’re gonna keep climbing.”
The players also feel like it was prep for the state tournament that they hope to return to this year.
“This will give us confidence we need to continue the season playing against teams we’re more familiar with and take care of business at home,” adds Browning.
Through all of the girls’ hard work and dedication, they placed third in the whole tournament. Watch out for the team’s next game. They’re fast, furious, and striving for that state appearance.
